Teardrop trailers are camping trailers that were popular from the '40's to the '50s. They orginate from the Popular Mechanics magazine in 1947. They typically sleep two inside, and have a galley under a rear hatch. From there, the possibilities are endless. There can be numerous teardrops at a gathering, and no two are alike. Here is the first teardrop I built. I had no plans but have been in construction all my life. My wife saw a show on HGTV about Teardrops and that was it.... We had to have one. This is me on a trip we took to a teardrop convention in Bearlake UT. We met some really great people and saw all types of teardrops. Most were made by the owners and some are purchased from manufacturing companies such as T@BS. We like our little cozy one and they don't cost an arm and a leg, storage is pretty easy since they are smaller than a car. Speaking of cars even a small car can pull one of these as long as you don't put too much weight on them.
I am now building my 3rd, for a customer. His will be a 5 X 10. Ours is a 4 X 8, this makes it easy when building due to the fact that ours is all wood since sheets of wood are generally 4 X 8. I have made adjustments to the newer ones I have built also. Such as you see the space under the stove here. We thought it would be a good idea to have a small storage area for poles, if we needed them. We have found that the space is not worth the trouble. So you learn from each one and the next just keeps gettin' better. The one I am now building has aluminum on the sides. I will be posting more pictures here in the next few days. I hope I have given you a good idea of what a teardrop is and if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment and I will get back to you ASAP. Thanks for Looking at my Blog.
