These are pictures of a 5x10 that I built. I used colored tin that I purchased from Wells Cargo Trailers. It worked great because it was 10 feet long and 49" wide. I tried glueing the tin on but found out later that the guy I built it for put srews in the sides because he thought it was going to come off. I have heard of other builders that let it float. The top I used bendable plywood. This stuff is GREAT!!! It lays real nice on the bends of the roof. I would recommend it to everyone planning to build a Teardrop.
It helps to have a lot of clamps when building a trailer. After building this trailer I would like to build a 5x10 for ourselves. Our little 4x8 is nice but would be nice to have more room. I think that I can build a trailer large enough to stand up in. I have heard of other builders that have built slideouts in their trailers. There is a lot of variations to designs. It is a lot of fun building them.

Trip to Mirror Lake, UT Labor Day Weekend
View of the kitchen. We got the stove from Cabella's. The coffe pot on top works good. It seems slow but we are used to a Bunn pot. It's better than having grounds in the coffee like the old camp fire pots used to be. We haven't used the oven yet but we plan to have biscuits and gravy. Under the wash tub is the silverware drawer. It keeps things clean and organized. The tub lifts out for dumping the water out. The stove is mounted on a slide out platform. It gets the heat away from the wood so there is less chance of fire.
We have a tent next to the Teardrop for getting dressed. We can also move our chairs in the tent to get away from bugs at night on warm nights. People probably think why have the Teardrop if you are going to set up a tent anyway. But they have never had a Teardrop experience. Nothing like having a good comfortable bed instead of sleeping on the ground.
Jean and I at Mirror Lake. View from the top of the mountain. Labor Day Weekend was the last weekend for the year. They close the park down for the winter because the roads are to hard to keep open. It is a beautiful area with a lot of lakes. Some of the lakes are just a pond but labeled a lake none the less. None of the lakes allow motorized boats so it is nice and peaceful.

Teardrop Travelin'
Teardrop trailers are camping trailers that were popular from the '40's to the '50s. They orginate from the Popular Mechanics magazine in 1947. They typically sleep two inside, and have a galley under a rear hatch. From there, the possibilities are endless. There can be numerous teardrops at a gathering, and no two are alike. Here is the first teardrop I built. I had no plans but have been in construction all my life. My wife saw a show on HGTV about Teardrops and that was it.... We had to have one. This is me on a trip we took to a teardrop convention in Bearlake UT. We met some really great people and saw all types of teardrops. Most were made by the owners and some are purchased from manufacturing companies such as T@BS. We like our little cozy one and they don't cost an arm and a leg, storage is pretty easy since they are smaller than a car. Speaking of cars even a small car can pull one of these as long as you don't put too much weight on them.
I am now building my 3rd, for a customer. His will be a 5 X 10. Ours is a 4 X 8, this makes it easy when building due to the fact that ours is all wood since sheets of wood are generally 4 X 8. I have made adjustments to the newer ones I have built also. Such as you see the space under the stove here. We thought it would be a good idea to have a small storage area for poles, if we needed them. We have found that the space is not worth the trouble. So you learn from each one and the next just keeps gettin' better. The one I am now building has aluminum on the sides. I will be posting more pictures here in the next few days. I hope I have given you a good idea of what a teardrop is and if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment and I will get back to you ASAP. Thanks for Looking at my Blog.
